Showing for the first time in Tehachapi on September's First Friday was Christiaan Bekker, who specializes in sports figures, animals and American icons. His paintings were on display at Gallery 'n Gifts.

His work included paintings of a cheetah, a Cape buffalo, an African elephant, Eli Manning, Tiger Wood, Payne Stewart, Paul Pierce and Clint Eastwood.

Bakker said most of his work is in the form of private commissions.

“When something is created, it is not art. It only become art when it is appreciated by someone other than the artist,” he writes in his biographical information. “This is the key and driving force behind the art I create.
